My Name Is Hoot | Alcoholism and Recovery | Your Roadmap To Sobriety

Drunk & Disorderly, Again

“My Name is Hoot; I’m an Alcoholic”

Drunk and Disorderly Againby Claude “Hoot” Hooten aka: Brad Edwards

Hoot’s story will astonish you once you know how young he was when he first got drunk; your heart will sink when you read about the horror that he lived through at the hands of a predator a few years later. This single event caused him to lose his father’s love, his innocence, and his boyhood ambitions, turning his life, upside down.

Hoot set out to be somebody, hiding behind a microphone. His love of radio may have kept him alive as his imagination put him on the cutting edge of innovation and creation, something he enjoyed more than drinking. It was also his flight of fantasy and escape from reality. Once he put his earphones on, he was somebody.

Hoot, as Brad Edwards scored big in several radio markets, with huge ratings in El Paso and Houston, Texas, and Miami, Florida. His wacky, odd ball personality was custom made for the radio; however, just as he made it to the top in his profession, alcohol slammed him down.

Hoot with the God of Sobriety in HawaiiHaving worked with the legends of radio, Emperor Bob Hudson (his mentor), Ron Landry, Roger Christian, Gary Owens, Dick Whittinghill, Wolfman Jack, Scott Shannon, John Lander and Mindy Frumkes, his Miami partner, he couldn’t get his share of fame until, he found sobriety.

Finally, in an astonishing communion with God one afternoon in Hawaii, Hoot was shown, in what he is sure was a divine moment, the vision of his future, and he didn’t like what he saw. It was at that precise moment, Hoot’s life changed forever.

Drunk & Disorderly, Again is the story of a boy whose life was filled with fun and adventure, some good, and some bad, but always exciting, like Hoot’s escape from Iran, just ahead of Savak, the Iranian Secret Police. His freedom from alcohol and his relationship with God, led to enormous success in business and his personal life, and brought him to the woman he loves.

Drunk & Disorderly, Again, is a roadmap to sobriety, but it’s the detours, that make it a wild ride.

Don’t miss his escape from the machine gun toting Iranian secret police.

Read the Forward from Drunk & Disorderly, Again

Hoot aka Brad Edwards, El Paso texas“My God!” I called him a gook and slurred, “It’s too bad we didn’t get the rest of you Viet Cong sons of bitches while we were at it.” I didn’t realize he was one of the owners of the night club doing business with our radio station.

I was in a blackout, incoherent and unable to stand on my own two feet. No doubt the radio station would fire my ass this time. All I ever wanted was to “be somebody!” How did I get here - Drunk and Disorderly, Again?

The nightmares and miscues of my life and career have been so numerous and embarrassing, that I can barely bring myself to think about them, much less admit to them. So, read on my friend, maybe you can avoid what happened to me in Houston, at one of that city’s most chic nightclubs. As a top radio personality in the market, it was devastating.

I sincerely anticipate you’ll read what you need to get your life on track, without having to fail as many times as I did. By the time “I got it,” 40 years had rolled by.

Eventually, I was able to enjoy a wonderful, sober life, but I want that for you right away. You do not have to suffer any longer!

The Houston episode was just one example of the life I was living as an alcoholic. The horrors I went through and those I put others through are numerous and sad, but avoidable.

Hoot with Julissa Ortiz of KCOY TV and CJ Cyrus of ESPNThe key to recovery is acceptance and honesty. In Drunk and Disorderly, Again, I point out the signs that may help you identify with me, if you have a problem. No one wants to admit they’re an alcoholic since the only accepted treatment, is abstinence.

When I first realized I was an alcoholic, I thought to myself, “I’ll have to give up the one thing that gives me joy in my life.” That sort of thinking is laughable considering the pain it caused me and others, and the behavior I lived with thinking it was normal for humans to act as I did.

No matter what you think may happen, once you’ve been sober for a while, develop relationships and friendships in sobriety and begin to behave as a sober individual, you’ll know what I’ve discovered: Life is wonderful and more fun than ever, without alcohol waiting in the bushes to sabotage everything you’ve achieved.

Drunk & Disorderly, Again is wonderful bedtime/airplane reading material. I enjoyed reading about your triumphs and setbacks. You have led a fascinating life and have done a good job of telling about how you evolved on life’s journey. You are a good writer. The book is entertaining and inspirational. (My enjoyment in reading the book was enhanced by the fact that I know … or at least heard most of the “characters” that you encountered during your radio days.”

Erwin Krasnow – Former general counsel of the National Association of Broadcasters and of counsel with Garvey Schubert Barer.

“I just read “Drunk & Disorderly,” it’s terrific. I can tell it was written from the heart.”

John “Rio” Carrillo (Mr. Leonard)
- aka: John Calhoun for ABC’s syndicated morning show – “Best Country.”

“I have never been exposed to the inside life of someone I love and care about who has been plagued and suffered as you have. I never really understood alcoholism at all – your words have given me so much insight. I am aghast and sad at some of the difficult and awful things you have experienced, my friend – and all the more thrilled at how you have and are WINNING by living a wonderful life full of so much love and positive energy.”

Mindy Frumkes Miami, Florida Radio personality and “Mindy & Malo”
(Hoot as Malo the bad boy) show Miami, Florida.

“My friend and mentor. I’m happy that you’re getting recognition for putting something really good out there for others to read.. I want one of the first copies.
